'Au fil des émotions' - Fabienne Christyn & Yorgos Papageorgiou

The BEGRAMOFF gallery is pleased to present the exhibition ‘Au fil des émotions’ ('Over the emotions') which combines porcelain sculptural works by Fabienne Christyn, Belgian sculptor, and pictorial works by Yorgos Papageorgiou, Greek painter presented for the first time in the gallery. The exhibition aims to create a universe in which the works scrutinize themselves, question themselves, talk to themselves, stimulate themselves and highlight themselves. Fabienne Christyn’s sculptures, made of assemblies of porcelain pieces with a mysterious transparency and opacity strongly interact with the arrangement of lines and coloured areas, with a disturbing brightness and a disarming vitality, of Yorgos Papageorgiou. Fabienne Christyn is a multifaceted artist, but her growing interest in sculpture and ceramics (trained in both disciplines at the Academy of Fine Arts in Namur) causes her to create sculptural works of porcelain, each more amazing than the others. For Fabienne Christyn, the 'Link' is the foundation of even her artistic approach, a 'Link' she considers essential in her daily life and during her life. From a young age, man is physically bound to his mother and over time this link is changing. And it is often necessary to break this link and forge another to continue one’s adult life. But cut a link does not mean remove the link, just untie it. The need to link, re-link, untie, tie and re-tie is present in everyday life and omnipresent in the work of Fabienne Christyn. She says: "My intimate and playful work is the result of an assembly of more or less small parts, which are connected to each other. I like to see them interact, append, assemble, spread, but also dissociate, confront each other, so that they offer us every time a new interpretation of what this tie is that binds us, differentiates us or separates us. A finished piece brings a new one. The parts are interconnected in a thoughtful or unconscious way: they suggest new leads to me and guide me in my explorations. Explore, reflect on the different actions in which these links may cause a positive or negative change, and even change the course of life ... is exciting!" Yorgos Papageorgiou, scientist by training, has studied art at the School of Fine Arts in Brussels (workshop Toma Roata) before living in Beijing from 2005 to 2010 and in Cairo from 2010 to 2012. He now lives between Brussels and Paros (Greece). The artistic approach of Yorgos Papageorgiou is in line with modern art. He assembles colours, lines in a specific order. No representation is perceptible, only the colours, lines, swirls take us into a singular emotional universe. Yorgos does not seek beauty in the academic and ancient sense of the term but lets himself go freely to its truth. The arrangement of lines and coloured areas, of a sometimes dazzling, sometimes disturbing, brightness, and of a disarming vitality, strongly remind us of the violence and sweetness of life. The international route of Yorgos Papageorgiou will greatly influence his artistic development, which we shall discover through the colours and light of the various works presented.
